DAY 8, HATCH TO SPRINGDALE - 61 MILES
Another nice night spent at Miss Lori's motel in Hatch. Her restaurant was closed for remodelling, so no music. But we had a nice dinner up the street at the Adobe Mexican Cafe. We went looking for dessert at about 9pm, wandered into one of the other motels in town and found some keylime pie. We also met the chef who had ridden his horse on a 7-month trip from New Hampshire to Montana, working in restaurants along the way. His horse, which he kept pastured in back of the motel, still looked pretty good inspite of that long trip. Never know who you'll meet on these journeys. |

| It had taken us over 9 hours to ride from Springdale to Hatch. It would take less than 6 to make the return trip. Mostly downhill and with a slight tailwind, our last day of riding was really fun. Working so hard to get up the hill to Hatch we hadn't really enjoyed soaking in the scenery. It was different this time and we stopped along the way to shoot pictures and just generally enjoy ourselves. |

| After a short uphill and 25 miles of downhill into Mount Carmel Junction, we turned west onto Highway 9 through Zion N.P. The climb to the eastern entrance was much easier than expected and the road from there to Springdale (through the heart of the Park) was all downhill and beautiful. An excellent way to end a bike tour. Next |
